The Troupes of Greensboro

Greensboro, North Carolina is home to some of the most dynamic and innovative modeling troupes in the state. Though there are several of these organizations that have graced the stage at some point in time, they are all connected by a common performance approach. This style places heavy emphasis on theatrical production, ready-to-wear fashion, high drama, and constant innovation.

One of the areas that showcase the ground-breaking creativity of the Greensboro performance troupes is their choreography that's influenced by J-sett movements, burlesque, northern modeling aesthetics, the ball-room scene, and drum core formations. The top tier of these troupes include Cliché Modeling Company of University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), Couture Productions, and Verge Modeling Troupe; the latter two belonging to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T). Other troupes include: Eccentrique of Benedict College and House of Legends.

Check out this video of Couture's models below. The intricate, precise choreography is combined with the loose but powerful banji-pump. A definitive Greensboro aesthetic.

In the next few series, I will highlight Cliché Modeling Company, Couture Productions, and Verge Modeling Troupe. So stay tuned!
